Airports & Transfers

Brussels Airport (BRU, Zaventem): Direct SNCB/NMBS trains run between the airport station (under the terminal) and city stations (e.g., Nord/Central/Midi) about 4×/hour; the Airport (Diabolo) supplement applies and is included in most tickets.
STIB Bus 12/21 (Airport Line): From airport ↔ city. From airport to city, use an Airport2City ticket or contactless (€7.90); city→airport accepts regular tickets.
Charleroi Airport (CRL): Flibco shuttle ↔ Brussels-Midi about every 20 min, ~55 min travel time (traffic-dependent).

Local Transport

STIB/MIVB metro–tram–bus covers the region. Tap your contactless bank card/phone on board or at gates: €2.30 for a 60-min ride with transfers; daily cap €8.40. Paper/MOBIB options available.

Connectivity / SIM

Major operators include Proximus, Orange Belgium, and BASE. ID-verified registration is mandatory for prepaid SIMs (counter-terrorism measure). Bring passport/ID when buying a SIM.

Local Rules to Note

Low-Emission Zone (LEZ): The Brussels-Capital Region is an LEZ. Foreign-registered vehicles (except NL) must register online (free, 5-year validity) before driving; older vehicles may be restricted.
Smoke-free indoors: Smoking is banned in enclosed public places and public transport under federal law (as amended). Observe signage; designated smoking rooms are tightly regulated.
E-scooters: Belgium sets minimum age 16, bans riding on sidewalks, and applies parking rules/designated areas; availability of shared e-scooters in Brussels is changing under city/regional restrictions—check operator apps.
